Our challenge? Stimulating the learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as making students aware of the scientific and technological vocations in the area of STEM.
Our way? Through innovative educational STEM interventions as the key to promote learning throughout the different formative stages in order to educate children, young people who are aware, responsible and endowed with scientific and technological knowledge.
CREATEskills is a project co-funded by the European Commission Union Erasmus+ Program, with the aim of promoting inter-disciplinary pedagogical approaches, through the collaborative development and implementation of a STEM related methodology for primary students. The project with the duration of 24 months (01 November 2017 – 31 October 2019) brought together academic and scientific organisations from four European countries, namely from Portugal, Spain, Greece and Lithuania, who developed and implemented new STEM tools and practices in primary school, improving the quality and relevance of the learning process regarding the attractiveness of STEM subjects.

Based on one of the main objectives of the European Union’s educational agenda, which is the development of STEM skills in children and young people in order to foster a more competitive economy for meeting the needs of today’s society, the CREATEskills project has developed a wide portfolio of resources and tools that empower the Teachers, the Students and the Parents towards that mission.
- A Best Practices Compendium with innovative practices for teaching STEM in Primary Education;
- A STEM on the WEB Platform, an online tool that allows teachers to connect in a European network and share experiences, research, ideas of activities and tools with each other. Also parents can share Do It Yourself (DIY) activities to do at home with their children;
- A Toolkit “Tools to Socially Learn STEM” based on practical and interactive activities related to natural sciences, robotics, mathematics, social sciences and technology;
- A Teacher’s handbook, with useful and systematic information about the implementation of the STEM activities, their duration and necessary materials to be taken in the execution;
- A Guide of Recommendations on how to use the proposed educational activities which are considered of great potential for the development of students’ technical skills, as well as promoting social inclusion.
The above resources constitute the cornerstone of the project and have been tested and validated within the well-balanced team of CREATEskills academic and scientific partners, under the coordination of Mentortec (Portugal). Agrupamento de Escolas do Loureiro e Pinheiro da Bem-Posta (Portugal); ColegioPúblico Consolación (Spain); Queen Morta School (Lithuania) and Chania Directorate of Primary Education (Greece) are the school partners that intensively tested and provided feedback on the development of the pre-mentioned resources while Mentortec (Portugal); University of Murcia (Spain); Metis Baltic (Lithuania); and Science View (Greece) are the scientific partners that engaged in the development of the final results.
